A BAD DAY FOR JERMAINE & RAY

Ray Ellis was convicted on charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and evidence tampering. He was accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in North County in late October 2016, Monica Sykes. Sykes disappeared from her home in Berkeley, where she was last seen getting into a white van. Her remains were found in field in Kinloch five months later. Court documents say Ellis confessed to a witness that he shot Sykes inside of his car and dragged her body into a field. A glove with the DNA of Ellis’ brother, Jermaine Benjamin, was found near the near the burning car. Benjamin was accused of evidence tampering for helping Ellis set the car on fire.
