Now under the skillful leadership of Thomas’ son, Barry Thomas and Anthony Sanders, the urban crime journal is finding new readers and supporters. Barry Thomas serves as publisher of the Whirl while Sanders continues to hone the publication’s crafty crime expose’ as editor-in-chief. They both serve as executives in the parent company, Thomas Publishing Co., Inc. Thomas as chief executive officer and Sanders as chief operating officer. Together, they are focusing on a bright and illustrious future for the now-70 year old publication with newspapers planned for Atlanta, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Memphis.
The St. Louis Metro Evening Whirl covers news in the surrounding counties that make up the St. Louis Metropolitan area. These counties include: St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Jefferson County, Washington County, Pike County and Franklin County in Missouri and St. Clair County, Madison County, Monroe County and Bond County in Illinois.
Currently serving a weekly readership of more than 100,000, the newspaper is looking to expand its readership in the near future upward to 200,000 weekly readers. Now that's saying something.
